Let’s be honest. Siblings can either be the sweetest part of a session or the most unpredictable part. The good news is that a little preparation goes a long way.
Here are a few easy tips to help your older child feel excited instead of resistant.
Talk about it ahead of time
Tell them they get to take special pictures with their new baby brother or sister. Make it feel important and fun.
Do not overhype it
If you build it up too much, they may feel pressure. Keep it simple. “We are going to take some cute pictures tomorrow.”
Bring a small reward
A small treat or surprise for after the session can work wonders. Even just stopping for ice cream after is motivating.
Schedule smart Try to choose a time that works with naps and meals. A tired or hungry toddler is not set up for success.
During sessions, I work quickly when siblings are involved. We capture those sweet moments first, then let them relax while I focus on the baby.
If you are looking for sibling friendly newborn or family photography in Kenosha County, I promise patience and flexibility are part of the experience.
